On the Slavic Island in the heart of Prague , which is one of the most famous islands on the Vltava River at the XIX century the famous balls ware taking place. For those events was built the Palace with dance halls. The palace was named Žofín (Palác Žofín) in honor of Archduchess Žofín, mother of Emperor Franz Joseph .
Right at this venue in 1843 the people of Prague at the ball first met aspiring writer Bozena Nemcova, who later became famous.
In Žofín were held the concerts of famous composers such as Berlioz, Liszt, Schubert. Here in 1863 performed with his works Richard Wagner, incredibly touched Prague residents. Also at Zofin audience first saw the kapellmeister’s back to them and his face to the orchestra.
